Literature Text

The tears I haven't yet spilled
are breaking through this night air
their tiny fingers overwhelming the silence
only this thin windowpane
prevents me from joining them
on the wet grass.

Because I am one of them
every one of a million raindrops
songs unsung
jokes untold
eyes not yet met.
Streams choosing directions
and racing each other
as they stain glass.

Anything but effortless,
I am lists and hypotheses.
I am hair curling out of order
fraying cloth flowers
waiting for someone to kiss
and unravel

so soft petals can link us together
wrapped in warmth
as we fly between birds
there where a feather lands before a rock.

Because we don't need to obey
the laws of physics
or biology.
I'm tired of predictable.
I want horizons
to rewrite nature
in the palm of your hand.
...whoever you might be
